Had planned on a 16 mile run for 2016, but then my family changed some plans to an earlier time so I had to cut it short. Got together with the old crew for some great miles in the cold to kick off the new year. Ran through Holladay along Wander and then back to Casto to drop off Tyler. Then headed south on Holladay Blvd. with James and Brayden and did a loop down 6200 S and back up Walker Lane. Fantastic time with great friends.

Had the day off for the big holiday. Decided to run while the kids napped in the afternoon. It was nice and rainy and provided for a great time.

Also, I have been super lazy with my running to start the year. Hopefully I can turn that trend on its head and get after it a bit more.

Got out in the snow today. It was just a nice fluffy snow to begin but it turned ugly about mile 3. It was windy, with small snow pellets instead of flakes. It was like getting shot by a really really old red rider bb gun, where the spring is worn, out thousands of times. The sides of the roads were covered in a nice thick layer of slush. Luckily the viziglos are weatherproof and my little toes stayed nice and toasty. As miserable as it sounds, this was actually a lot of fun!

Went to the gym with my wife for a Yoga class. Decided to go early and run on a treadmill for a bit, but when we got there, every treadmill was in use. I hopped on an elliptical and did a mile until one of the treadmills opened up.

By then I only had about 20 min until yoga. Did 1 mile about 8 min pace and then did 2nd mile at 6:40 with a 2% incline to make it a bit more realistic. Then cooled down and hit up an hour of yoga.

Met Brayden and James at Liberty Park for a nice run. Was planning on a 10 mile run at about 7:15 avg pace, but the new shoes were unkind and I had to cut it short because of a gnarly blister on the little toe. Hopefully, the shoes are well broken in now and will not cause any more problems. Hadn't run that pace for a while and it felt just alright. Not too terrible but also not amazing.

Met Braydon for a chunck of miles during his 20 mile training run. He needed to run a 7:18 AP but chose a tough route to run that with me. Met him just north of the CH Rec Center and then went south until Bengal Blvd. Then East up Bengal to Wasatch. Then North on Wasatch until Old Mill GC. Since I am out of shape I bailed there and headed home. Rounded out my mileage to 10 by looping the neighborhood. Felt good to be close to his pace for a while.

Ran to meet Brayden at the corner of Wasatch and BCC. I ran through the intersection and saw Brayden coming up the BCC trail about .25 miles behind me. I yelled to him to catch me since he is in much better shape than I am. Then I dropped the pace to 6:30 for a mile or so and then kept it under 7:00 for another mile. That pretty much killed me and I had to slow way down. Brayden caught up to me right before the Mt Oly trailhead. We ran another mile together before I turned around and headed back home. I was just trying to be a good rabbit for Brayden during a challenging stretch of Wasatch. I'd say I did a good job.

We got invited over to dinner at Cass' sister's house. So, I decided to run over rather than drive since Cass was already there waiting for me to get off of work. Tried to hurry over there and ran the first two miles at about a 7:10 avg with some quicker sections. Then I hit the hills from La Caille over to Rocky Mouth Trailhead. There are several rolling hills there and a couple of decent climbs.

Averaged just under a 7:30 for the entire run. Felt good, but was way to hot in my jacket. I thought it was going to rain so I went prepared and paid the price.

Today the bed monster had a good firm grip on me. I didn't feel like getting out and pounding the pavement. Then when I finally dragged my butt out of bed and got dressed, my wife is making pancakes. It smelled incredible and I was hungry. I refrained from eating and slowly put on my shoes trying to think of a reason to not get out and run. Then I got out and the first mile was tough mentally. I just wanted to lay back down after a late night. Then I decided to just go kick my own butt by choosing a really hilly route. After about 4 miles of hills my attitude changed and I was super happy to be out running. Glad I got in the run today.

James had this crazy idea to run with Brayden from Lambs Canyon to Brighton Ski Resort. I decided to give it a try even though I was fairly certain I wasn't in any kind of conditioning to actually do it. Met up and the ran began good enough. By the time we dropped into Millcreek canyon, my legs were starting to feel really heavy and I was considering bailing out there after 6 miles. Decided to see how I felt as I went up the road to the upper parking lot. James stuck with me and we decided to bail on this adventure and leave it for another day. Got to the parking lot and snagged a key from Daniel and then ran back down to his car and drove to get our cars. 8 miles

Ran 8 miles with James on the usual route in Holladay/Millcreek. Stomach is not happy with my decisions for food over the weekend.

Did the southern loop of Holladay/Millcreek with James. Depending on which watch you used, it was 8.25 or 8.5. I think my older watch is more accurate because it has more experience.

Met up with Jake and James at the mouth of BCC. Drove up to Lake Blanche trailhead and ran up to the lake. Felt pretty good on the trail and the views up top are fantastic! Was an early morning after not much sleep, but glad to have been out. Utah is pretty neat.

Decided to try and crack the top 5 of the pier to pier segment in Newport Beach. Ran a 3 mile warm up and then hit the Balboa pier and ran to the Newport Pier. Felt decent during the speed portion and ended up 3rd overall.

Ran with a friend for 8 miles. Down the boardwalk to the Wedge and then back to the other end of the boardwalk and up the backroad towards Huntington Beach. Felt labored.

Ran with James up in Cottonwood Heights at night. Left around 10 or so and ran a loop around my neighborhood and a little out and back on Wasatch.

Ran a little variation of the usual neighborhood route. My shoe has been rubbing my little toe on my left foot. Not sure why.

Same north loop with James with 1 extra south block added for good measure. Temps are ideal right now.

Have had a hectic/lazy week and didn't get out at all. Just ran a short 5 miler to make my legs do some work.

Met Hille and James for the usual loop. James and I added a mile at the end to cool down since Hille pushed us so hard on the rest of the loop.

I was just following your guys pace

I needed the faster pace today. We can just blame James for the faster pace.

Met up at James' house and ran the usual loop but added a mile on the South end and tacked on a titch in his neighborhood to get to 10. Felt good throughout.

Met at James and Brayden for a nice 5 AM run through Holladay/Millcreek. Same Loop as usual but different starting point. For some reason my hips were a bit achy at the end. James says cummalative fatigue, which could be true since I haven't been running much this month.

Paced Brayden from Big Mountain AS to Lambs Canyon AS during his Wasatch 100 race. This section is usually in the middle of the day and is very exposed so the heat drains you. We kept a decent pace during the climbs and tried to make up some of the ground on the downhills. There were some steep downhill sections that were slower than some of the climbing sections. Cruised through Alexander Ridge and started down the road towards Lambs. There are a bunch of rollers here that we ran but the sun was brutal. After we turned into the trees to go through the pass, Brayden gets stung by a bee and we had to slow down while he dealt with that. Once he felt better, we cruised all the way to the Lambs Canyon AS. James took over from there through the finish.

7.5 solo miles around the hood and on my southern loop. The newly paved road along Wasatch is a dream to run on and much quieter with the cars.
